For some of us the best of them
all - this logbook is now in a state of extreme disrepair, due to
two irresponsible social secs sticking lots of beermats into it
and breaking its spine. Sorry!
Despite all this - its still with us, and yields up these fine
offerings...
Craig's Blues, May 1994
Craig is a man of many talents, but songwriting is not a widely
known one - here's proof that Mr Almond can feel the blues like the rest of us...
Points of Munro Bagging
The emergence of the Baggers as a distinct clique was well under
way by now - this anonymous entry could either be a character
assassination or a manifesto - you
decide!
Footleg's Festering Grading System (and others)
Speaks for itself, really! Why should the energetic amongst us be
the only ones with a difficulty rating
system?
The whole rating system took off for a few months after this -
here's another one, this time dedicated to what was at that time
the only radio station a Marshalls minibus could pick up amongst
the British mountains - the ubiquitous Atlantic
252...
Wasdale, May 1995
A fine trip, with excellent drinking successes against York
Mountaineers as usual.
Joby found the drinking game a great excuse for pouring beer over one's head...
Glencoe, November 1995
Some leaders have very little luck sometimes. This was Mike's
attempt to lead a low level walk at Glencoe, which had meant to
involve hitching to Kings House and walking back from there. With
a group of 8 women with him, he found the hitch impossible, and
went on to suffer a day in Glencoe
Village.
That evening Joby encountered the barman at a certain Scottish
pub, who, for the second year running, took exception to
something he was doing......... hence this extremely amusing cartoon...
Yorkshire Dales Crawl, November 1995
The infamous long-distance bar crawls were in full swing by this
stage. A feature of these three days of devoted alcholism was the
"beer tally" which was
kept by the increasingly inebriated hikers. This one is is a
particularly bad state, but is just about legible. It was found
tucked inside the cover of the logbook...
Patterdale, January 1996
A great little weekend in the snow - braving blizzards at
Brotherswater! As Colin, Sarah M and Mike found, freezing bouts
of group insomnia can have
inspiring effects - especially if there's a logbook to write in
at the time!
...and finally
Scrawled inside the back cover of the logbook is a solitary email
address, which actually turned out to be
Email Dave's first email address.
How a nickname can stick.......
