SUMMER BALL 2000
	Friday Night From early in the morning the preparations had been going on... balloons and banners were hung, displays put together, fireworks primed and sound systems set up. The hostel staff glanced nervously at their watches as the arrival of 'LUHC Alumni' drew ever nearer. And then the trickle started, and became a flood... Gradually the hostel filled up with people who hadn't seen each other in ages... and those who saw each other every day. Soon everyone was clustered round a barbecue or two (lifted mysteriously from the LUHC garage), enjoying the miraculously fine weather, and Nick O's cooking... Nick watches Adam light the barbie with willpower alone... Jake inspects the gratuitous feast, while Rob and Andrew wait expectantly Once full, the only sensible thing to do was to start drinking. In proper Hiking Club manner we decided to have a beer race. Although it looked like an easy win for Jake's team over Jim Heath's team a later stewards enquiry named both teams as 'cheating bastards' and ordered regular rematches. Down the hatch - tensions mount as Richard Morley takes on Steve Forth The entertainments were soon in full swing in preparation for the main event. DJ Mikey Mike gave a sneak preview of the disco of extreme cheesiness - La Fromagerie, whilst some sought a quieter place to sit and talk. Bring on the Cheese... Hiking Club line dancing - coordination not an issue... Far from the madding crowd - the more... erm... 'mature' Hikers! The morning after!
