New Forest weekend
12th - 14th July 2002
Organiser: Kate Cox

The Venue

Campsite: New Forest Campsite - Ashurst
Directions: From the North (as there is no real South of Southampton!)
  • Exit the M27 at J2 onto the A326 (signposted Fawley)
  • Go straight across at the next four roundabouts
  • Just after the fourth roundabout take the slip road off to the left signposted Southampton and Ashurst
  • At the next roundabout you need to spin back on yourself and head back up the dual carriage way you have just come down.
  • Go straight across (first exit) at the next roundabout (signposted Ashurst)
  • Keep going through Ashurst for approximately 2 miles
  • As you come out of Ashurst the campsite is signposted on the left, just after a railway bridge and pub.

Activities Mountain Bikes are available to hire at many places in the Forest, whilst for those feeling a little more adventurous it is possible to arrange Pony Treking if the demand is great enough. For those old traditionalists it is possible to go walking only you may struggle to gain any height!
For those who just want to fester this is possible in the nearby towns of Lyndhurst and Hythe, but if it is big shops you want then catching the Ferry over to Southampton City Centre may be more advisable.
There is also the Beaulieu Motor Museum which houses a very good collection of old cars as well as many recent makes, including those used during recent James Bond films.
Finally there is always the Beach.... the water may even be just above freezing come July!
