Mike & Craig's Festive Yuleshack!
14th - 16th December 2001
Organisers: Mike Amberry & Craig Almond

Got nothing booked for the weekend 14th-16th December?
Fancy an old-fashioned, laidback, yuletide atmosphere?
Got 25 quid to Spare?

Then Uncle Mike and Uncle Craig, have the answer.........

Mike and Craig's Festive Yuleshack!!!

What have we got planned?
- 2 nights accomodation and breakfast at Smelt Mill, Bowland Pennine Rescue Team's bunkhouse.
- Food on Friday night, and breakfasts/lunches all through the weekend.
- Festive Fun, real fires, board games, party games, and Uncle Mike's Festive Quizfest.
- Special Punch - more kick than a disgruntled reindeer.......

When you arrive on Friday night some food will be waiting for you, and you can settle in at Bowland MRT's extremely cosy bunkhouse - did we mention the roaring fire? After breakfast on Saturday have a please yourself Alumni day, explore the Bowland Fells, do that last minute shopping in Lancaster (or Clitheroe, or Settle) or stay in with the un-dynamic, avuncular duo.
Saturday night will be our Christmas party. To keep cost down, and generally not stress ourselves out we'll ask each of you to bring some food to the Party, to make up a big buffet. We'll be providing lots of Mince Pies and Punch, as well as organising our favourite games for all to enjoy, ably assisted by the glamorous Auntie Rosie!
The dress code for Saturday night will be "SLACKS AND SWEATERS". Continuing the Hiking Club tradition of NO JEANS. Prizes will be awarded for the nicest sweater, tightest slacks, and the most convincing impersonations of Gyles Brandreth or Val Doonican.

As space is limited to 25 people, you'll need to book in advance.
Please email us to tell us if you're interested in coming - if there's still room left you'll need to send a cheque made payable to LUHC Alumni to Ben, our Treasurer, whose address is available on request, and while the cheque's in the post we'll hold onto a space for you.
Everyone's welcome to book a ticket, but it's got to be first come first served, I'm afraid..

The Venue
Accommodation: Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team's Smelt Mill Centre
Grid Ref: SD638509
Directions by car: From Lancaster:
Head east of the city on the minor roads to Quernmore and take the road that goes up past Jubilee Tower. Stay on the road as it goes past the village of Marshaw and up over into the Trough of Bowland itself. The road drops for two kilometres past the top of the Trough before coming to a track bearing right up Langden Brook near a river. Stay on the main road and continue for 750 metres until you come to a stone building on your right, which is the Smelt Mill Centre. Parking should be obvious.
If you arrive in Dunsop Bridge you've come too far...

You can see a map by clicking here. Smelt Mill is the small building on the yellow road between Hareden and Sykes.
Directions by train: The nearest main-line station is in Lancaster. Give us a shout if you need a lift from here and we'll make some arrangements.
Facilities: Cosy Lounge, Real Fire, Bunk Beds, Toilets, Showers, Drying Room, Dining Area.
Pub: None nearby - which is why we're making the punch in a large bowl! Best to bring a bottle or two for the Saturday night...
Other highlights:  Although the walking isn't as exciting as in other areas there are some challenging walks available. There's also some Christmas Shopping opportunities in Lancaster, Clitheroe or Settle.
