an Alumni Trip... please contact us via the contact form if you'd
like to organise something, or request a venue.

Good news for Kate and Rich Cox - they have had a baby daughter!
Isobel Sarah Cox was born at 2:52am on 16th January 2004.
She weighed in at 7lb 11oz and both mum and baby are fine.
|
| Mike Amberry |
I'm very pleased to announce that Kate and Rich Cox are expecting a baby!
The proud parents expect the patter of tiny feet early in 2004, and the smart money is on
the new arrival looking good in goretex romper suits and vibram-soled bootees... ;)
Our warmest congratulations to them both!

Hot on the heels of the last announcement,
further excellent news reaches me that Stefan and Dawn got engaged
recently on a trip to London. Stefan chose to drop to one knee
in the flower gardens at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich. Looking
forwards to a possible wedding date, Stefan tells me it will
be 'sometime in the next six years I think, if we've got any
free weekends and we're not out walking.' Congratulations to
them both!

Good news reached us at the Shropshire weekend that Steve and Rosie
are to tie the knot. Steve popped the question a few weeks ago, and the wedding is expected in Spring 2004.
Best of luck to both of them!
|
| Mike Amberry |
As well as the Shropshire Weekend, we have some more camping trips running in 2003.
There are trips to Northumberland and the Roaches in Staffordshire to be had - more details can be seen
on the diary page - click the link on the left of your screen.
|
| Mike Amberry |
I'm happy to report that the trip to Shropshire on the bank holiday weekend
went very well. 14 people had a great weekend in unexpected sunshine!
Hopefully more weekends will follow soon!

Congratulations to Jake, who has won this website's
Christmas Prize Quiz after getting all the answers right.
A £10 Field and Trek Voucher is in the post.
|
| Wendy Smith |
This year's Christmas Party will
be on the weekend of the 13th to 15th December, at the Toc-H
Bunkhouse near Masham, North Yorkshire. More details can be
found here.
UPDATE 8/12/02 - PARTY CANCELLED DUE TO LACK OF INTEREST
- SORRY TO ALL WHO WERE COMING.

After two and a half years as Secretary of LUHC Alumni
I have decided to step down. Taking over my role as joint coordinators of this excellent
society are Wendy Smith and Dawn McCartney.
I would like to thank everyone who has turned up to the events I have helped to organise,
particularly the Summer Ball (which started it all) and the Pennine Way Challenge (on
which note it seemed appropriate to finish) - it's been a lot of fun.
I'm still going to be looking after the website, so please continue to let me, and Jake, have your
ideas, photos and submissions for that.
|
| Mike Amberry |
The very best of news - our Pennine Way Challenge was
successfully completed this weekend, with our last team coming in 15 minutes before the deadline!
This means we got the baton all the way from Scotland to Edale in under 4 days,
a superb feat and testament to the huge effort put in by everybody involved.
More can be seen soon in the Pennine Way section of this website...

| Mike Amberry |
Good news, folks - we're going to
Sykeside for what is fast becoming an annual event!
Please join us from the 11th to the 13th October for what should
be an excellent weekend's camping.
|
| Footleg |
| Footleg and Caroline are now married.
We tied the knot on 20/07/02 in the North Lincolnshire village
of Alkborough. The reception was held in a marquee. As was to
be expected when a critical mass of my family members gather
together under canvas, it rained like you wouldn't believe (unless
you are British in which case you know the normal Summer weather
here). We had a great day all the same. We are now homeless
in Cambridgeshire, but contactable via email. |
| Mike Amberry |
I'm delighted to announce that, as of last Saturday afternoon, Michelle and I are
engaged. We plan to marry sometime in summer 2004.
Thanks very much for all the good wishes we have received so far!

Some of us were lucky enough to spot none other than our very own venerable bagger, Paul Cook,
being interviewed on Granada Tonight this week; the occasion being his charity ascent
of Napes Needle dressed as W P Haskett Smith himself.
Details of the climb can be found on the
Wasdale MRT website.

| Mike Amberry |
Chris McAlpine and Heather Kennedy were married on Saturday 22nd June at the Ashton Memorial.
They have apparently begun married life with a walking honeymoon in Europe - how suitable!
All our very best wishes to them both.
|
| Jake Colbeck |
Congratulations to Mark and Anna
on their engagement. Apparently Mark popped the question this
week on a beach in Anglesey.
Best wishes and lots of luck for the future - well done!
|
| Mike Amberry |
Just when you thought it was looking a bit quiet on the Alumni front, we are
very pleased to announce THREE new trips for spring and summer 2002.
These are a Wasdale camping weekend in April, a trip to the North Pennines for the Mayday
Bank Holiday weekend and a Jubilee Weekend campsite party in Borrowdale.
For further information, please visit the Diary page.

More good news was announced at Steve & Rosie's excellent Open House
Weekend in Bath - Will and Jo are to tie the knot! Will popped the question to
the future Mrs Denham at a tree cathedral (sounds romantic!) - no date is planned for
the wedding yet.

| Mike Amberry |
A fair bit of discussion happened at the Christmas Party about what the Alumni were planning for 2002.
The answer is, as always, that we'll publicise whatever our members fancy doing - so those
of you out there with suggestions for weekends away, whether walking or social, camping or bunkhouse,
whatever it is you fancy please email us or
better still start some discussion using our online discussion forum - there's a page already set up
for you to use - click here!

The Alumni held their first ever Christmas Party at the Smelt Mill Centre in the Forest of Bowland
on the weekend of the 14th to 16th December 2001. 27 people came along to enjoy a weekend
of drinking and gluttony in front of a roaring fire. There was tinsel aplenty, silly games and
even carol singing, and a good time was had by one and all.
Photos of the event are already appearing online and can be seen by using the link from the diary page.

Geraint Jones and Helen Jones have got engaged during their recent holiday to the US -
Geraint apparently popped the question during a Niagara Falls cruise!
They've not set a date for the wedding yet, but Geraint has informed me that he will
be generously allowing Helen to keep her maiden name!
Best of luck to them both!

| Mike Amberry |
I'm pleased to announce that we're holding a Christmas Party on the 14th - 16th December
in the Trough of Bowland, using Bowland Pennine MRT's plush Smelt Mill Centre!
The bargain price of £25 gets you accommodation, most of your food, some punch and entertainment.
Go to the Diary page for more details, and email us to sign up now!

A welcome bit of good news from the US - Ken Griest got engaged last month to his girlfriend Jenny.
The wedding is planned for the third of August 2002 - congratulations and best wishes from all over here
for their future happiness.

Steve and Rosie are organising an Alumni Trip to Sykeside Campsite, Brotherswater, on the 19th
to 21st October 2001. For further information, including directions to the campsite visit the trip information page.

The Glen Shiel trip, on the weekend on 21st - 23rd September, has now been shifted a few hundred miles south due to the sheer distance (and cost) involved in getting up to Glen Shiel for a weekend.
Instead we will be spending the weekend in beautiful Buttermere, in the northwest Lakes, just southwest of Keswick.
For further information, including directions to the campsite visit the Diary page.

Come and help me celebrate my 30th Birthday party (yes I really am that old).
It's taking place at Wasdale Head on Saturday 8th September. The main events
will take place in the pub
that evening but there should be a full weekend of climbing and walking as
well.. Plan is to camp either at the head or the NT site depending on numbers ..
For more information, email Paul at paul.ma.cook@bnfl.com

A weekend is being planned in Edale on the weekend of 31st August to the 2nd
September, the campsite has yet to be confirmed - either Fieldhead National
Park Centre site, or the site opposite the Old Nag's Head.
For more information, check the diary page!

Last weekend saw the first of the weekend trips for 2001 - a camping trip to Nant Peris in Snowdonia.
Despite the high winds and regular showers a record turnout for an Alumni walking weekend - over 20 -
enjoyed the traditional mix of getting wet through on Snowdon, merry in the Vaynol Arms and stuffed to
bursting in Pete's Eats! Huge thanks to Lindsay for getting the weekend organised!
Been to Nant Peris and want to comment? Then leave a message on the Forum by clicking here.
For future events, check out our diary page!

Following the easing of Foot and Mouth restrictions in many places, we're pleased to announce
that we'll be running some trips this summer after all! So far we're going to Snowdonia in July, and to
Glen Shiel in September, and you can find out all about these trips by looking at the
diary page!

Allyn Hall and Erich Jaeger are back! The American couple, who met whilst students (and Hikers)
at Lancaster University in 1997, are returning to their old stamping grounds this month.
They are due in Lancaster on Friday May 25th for a trip to Faraday Foyer and a night on the town.
Saturday will bring a visit to Borrowdale, where they'll be catching up with
a lot of old friends from the Alumni in one of the local pubs!
If you want to meet up with them in Lancaster or Borrowdale, then email us for more details!

At an informal meeting of the Alumni Organisers at the Penny Bank, Lancaster,
it was decided that plans would be made for the Summer, despite the continuing FMD
outbreak. The following trips were proposed and will take place should there
be a letup in the crisis.
* A "welcome" event for new Alumni members graduating this Summer.
* A weekend in the Lake District.
* A long weekend on Dartmoor.
More details will be made available nearer the time!
|
| Mike Amberry     |
As the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak worsens it seems that all access
to rural areas will be suspended for the foreseeable future. LUHC have cancelled
their remaining walking trips as have other clubs around the UK.
Although The Alumni have no trips planned over the winter months there were several in
the pipeline from Easter onwards, but these will have to be cancelled until
the crisis is over.
More details about FMD can be found
here.

Breaking news - Raphael Bleakley has been elected as LUHC President at this
evening's AGM. At the same time a proposal from the outgoing President, Nick Mattock,
aimed at scrapping the post of Vice President, failed to be carried.
You can see them on the full breakdown of the new exec
here.

Congratulations to Andy Lunn for winning this website's Christmas Quiz, with a superb total
of 19 correct answers which, out of a maximum of 20, is pretty impressive.
You can see the other scores and the correct answers in the
forum.

| Mike Amberry     |
Some more good news for you all - Chris Bracchi and Jo Brown have got engaged,
and are planning their wedding for October 2002.
Chris proposed to Jo while they were on holiday in Venice, and they've got some
more travelling to do before the wedding - namely their expedition to Vietnam!
I'm sure I can speak for all of us in wishing them the very best of luck for the future.

| Mike Amberry     |
Despite the harsh weather and an unreliable rail network the Alumni Trip to Dublin proved
a great success.
Twenty-three of us enjoyed brewery and distillery visits, cultural stuff and (of course)
pub crawls... culminating in an excellent night in the Porter House on New Years Eve itself.
Thanks to all who went, and to Lindsay for getting it all organised for us.
You can read some opinions in the Forum, and there will be photos appearing on the site in due course.
|
| Mike Amberry     |
The waiting is finally over today as the Alumni website finally goes public at
its new home!
Several months of hard work by Mike Amberry and Jake Colbeck have resulted in the new site you're
looking at now - we hope the new layout and design makes it faster, more accessible and
easier to use than before. Please take some time to have a browse around, and in
particular you may want to post your opinion of the new site on the Forum.
|
| Mike Amberry     |
As part of the website update the News Page has been written and put online.
This should provide a place where Alumni members can check back regularly to
see news and information of relevance to them.
